The Revolutionists
Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater
Directed by Megan Nussle
Written by Lauren Gunderson
Role
Marie Antoinette
Reviews
“Paige O’Connor as Marie Antoinette nearly steals the show. Though her program bio describes her as a recent alum of N.Y.U. and Second City, she plays the doomed queen with the expert comic timing of a seasoned vet. Her sassy smile is infectious, and her Marie Antoinette makes glorious fun of herself, dropping red ribbons with innocent abandon. What better way to rehab the reputations of women in revolutionary France than to portray the hapless Marie, its symbol of misunderstood decadence, as a dainty smart-ass?” - The Provincetown Independent
"The cast and Nussle have succeeded in making every single performance a tour de force, and the actresses make you care very much about this convincing, often passionate and powerful quartet." "O’Connor’s Marie Antoinette is hilarious in her early self-absorption, but also endearing when she adds important warmth and compassion to the humor as she realizes the potential of these women." - The Cape Cod Times
About
An irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story. Or total fiction. Or a play about a play. Or a raucous resurrection…that ends in a song and a scaffold. Featuring Andréa Bellamore, Hannah Hakim, Christina Leidel, and Paige O'Connor.
